A lot of doctors don't talk about side effects and patients too don't bother asking except for cases where the potential side effects are quite common. There is a high chance that the doctors won't warn about a potential side effect if it is a rarely occurring one. If that were to be done, the doctors would need all day to reel out all the potential side effects on a prescription card.
A person that's highly at risk of a serious allergic reaction will most likely experience the side effects of the drug and any food can also cause reactions too. Whatever we do as humans, there's a level of risk and probably that's why doctors don't warn about the rare side effects of the drugs they prescribe.

Drug Abuse and Addiction
What is drug addiction?
Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences.† It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain—they change its structure and how it works. These brain changes can be long-lasting, and can lead to the harmful behaviors seen in people who abuse drugs.
†The term addiction as used in this booklet may be regarded as equivalent to a severe substance use disorder as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5, 2013).

Addiction is a lot like other diseases, such as heart disease. Both disrupt the normal, healthy functioning of the underlying organ, have serious harmful consequences, and are preventable and treatable, but if left untreated, can last a lifetime.
